Great Trail – day 2

In reality we are not on the Great Trail. That’s the name of our trip but we are making it up as we go until we get to Cranbrook this weekend. The Great Trail follows the Great Divide Trail from Banff, South to Fernie and then works its way over to Canmore. We came North from Banff to Lake Louise. This morning we left Lake Louise to go west to Golden.Gordon got us ready for the ride by telling us it was a horrible road with narrow shoulders, steep hills and winding turns. Thankfully, he was mostly wrong. But even if he had been correct the views alone would have been worth a horrible Road.As often happens on a bike ride, we found an amazing place for lunch. The water had a beautiful as your color to it but was crystal clear and there was no one else around for most of the lunch.Gordon was partly correct. After descending a significant portion of the ride on nice wide shoulder, we suddenly came to a very steep section that was winding, two lane and no shoulder. And this being Highway 1, the main road between the coast and Calgary, there was no shortage of cars and trucks. We took our time and dodged truck as we pulled off into the gravel. A few minutes later we were safely in Golden for the nightPhotos Day 2
