Great Trail day5

Our experience in riding from Fairmont to Cranbrook suggests that every single Canadian has an RV. It turns out this is a three-day holiday weekend and it falls in the two weeks they call Summer in Canada. Accordingly, everyone in Canada is out for the weekend in their RV. Now by U.S. standards that’s not many but when you’re riding down the side of a highway it seems like Millions. Fortunately it had a great shoulder the entire route minus a few narrow Bridges.

We thought it was hard getting Gumby out of the cabin the day before, but with the plush treatment, including white robes, and hot springs of Fairmont we could barely force him onto the bike. Add to that an amazing breakfast and it wasn’t easy. Theoretically we are now moving out of the resort areas and likely into a bit more reality.

Our excuse for eating so well today was it’s Canadian food day. Accordingly, we had to eat Canadian food every place we could find it. Maybe it wasn’t actually Canadian food but we did eat it in Canada.

It was a relatively long day with some tailwinds and some headwinds. As usual it was past beautiful mountain scenery, large lakes and rivers flowing with the bluish teal color which we’re told is the result of silt from the glaciers. Unfortunately towards the end of the day my knee started acting up making the long-distance day, coupled with headwinds at the end, not so fun. We made a pharmacy run and hopefully some anti-inflammatories and salve will heal me up while we enjoy the Sabbath.
