Days 7 and 8: Sagle, ID

Day 7 we enjoyed the Sabbath with the Powell. Tim taught us during our sacrament about how our values determine our priorities. Ultimately where you put your time and energy are your priorities. He also called me to repentance by helping me realize that even though I love having home Church there are others that may need us in their Church. It was a great lesson and we enjoyed spending the rest of the day visiting together and of course eating.

It was like Christmas being at the Powell home, both because we got to be with them and because Tim reunited us with Gumby. In fact he reunited us with to Gumby’s knowing how bad we are at keeping track of them.

Monday was likely our hardest day of the trip. We wore ourselves out without ever getting on our bicycles. There was a wave runner to enjoy and race down a seemingly endless Lake. Tim showed me how it could go almost freeway speeds. We had previously discussed end-of-life wishes for both of us so that minimized the need for intervention if we crashed.

The sea kayaks were a hit with everyone. In the morning Tim and I took them probably 20 no maybe 30 miles on a very manly paddle :). Even Gloria went out in the sea kayak. She went with Julie around the island that is the play area for their property. I played lifeguard on the paddleboard. We won’t mention that my first trip out on the paddle board included a very graceful exit off the back of the paddle board and into the water. Thankfully the water is incredibly pleasent and warm.

Back at the house Tim had installed a zip line across a ravine in their property. Everyone got on it and had a great time. It’s pretty exciting because not only do you race across the ravine hanging by a cable but you’re quite certain that you will be hitting a tree at the end of the ride.

Throughout our stay Julie provided incredible meals. Not only was the house beautiful like an expensive bed and breakfast but we were treated to five-star meals night and day. We tried to assist as best we could but generally we were just leeches. And when we left she sent us with a bag of incredibly good chocolate chip cookies that I had to fight over with Gumby.

All in all it really was the best part of the trip. I love to ride my bike but it was wonderful being with people we love and that took such good care of us. One of my favorite memories of this trip will be kayaking with Tim and hearing his wisdom and thoughts. And, of course, it was also a lot of fun.

Not too surprisingly as we prepared to leave we could only find one Gumby, mine. Gloria and I are having a bit of a competition about our parenting abilities. Luckily we did some searching and found the other Gumby. Now we’ve made it almost 2 days without losing a Gumby
