Great Trail wk2 d3

After yesterday, today was something of a recovery day. And what an amazing area to recover. We started the day at Ainsworth, spending a few minutes at the beach in the front of our house doing important things like skipping rocks. We’d be hard-pressed to get one across the 4 km wide and 104 kilometer long Kootenay Lake. Please continue to believe that this is a frozen wasteland north of the US border.

Eventually we forced ourselves back on the bikes and began riding down the road back to the ferry but not taking the ferry. While we sat at the bakery next to the ferry I’m refueled on a breakfast brownie something amazing happened. A car pulled up and sitting on the dash was none other than our green Gumby.

I was tempted to break into the car can stealing back undoubtedly the driver at Bend in New Mexico and found him on the New Mexico border where we accidentally left him. However, I did not want to end up in some frozen gulag north of Edmonton for breaking and entering. Plus I wasn’t sure Gumby wanted to come back with us as we had abandoned him. As you have by now noticed we brought his cousin with us and hopefully won’t lose him: yellow Gumby. He’s been much more fortunate than green Gumby and enjoying doing morning yoga (down dog) with us – especially today on the deck.

The ride from Banfour, the ferry stop, to Nelson was only 34 km. I like to use kilometers because then it sounds like we actually did something. We followed the Kootenay River coming out of the bottom of Kootenay Lake and it was nothing short of spectacular. We had to be on the main road but for the most part people were very courteous.

The rest of the day was tough as we hit the beach and looked for things to eat around Nelson. It’s a beautiful little town but unfortunately has a smell similar to Pueblo (i.e. pot).

  1. Now we all know why Gumby on this trip is Yellow not green, he is a cousin to Green Gumby who possibly was kidnapped in New Mexico? Nice of you to offer to take Yellow Gumby along he appears to be having a great time.

  2. Yes, many people have been concerned about the green Gumby and the yellow Gumby. Sorry it took you so long to clarify:)
