Great Trail wk3 d1

Taking the Sabbath off is good on several levels. It turned out that yesterday it rained off and on almost the whole day. We also had a really nice time at church and a great lunch after church with the other members. This morning after our two-day stay at Grand Forks finest Ramada we began climbing out of the valley.

With the clouds still hanging in the valleys from yesterday’s rain it felt like the Smoky Mountains. The 4% grade of the railroad Trail was pleasant and the views were unbelievable. Since I keep saying that they must really be unbelievable or I’m unbelievable. In any case, at one point it looked and felt like we were riding into heaven. Unfortunately, it was just more uphill with surrounding clouds.

It’s also late enough in the season that we are now finding one of our favorite fruits: thimbleberries. Hopefully we are not taking too much of the Bears food. As we picked these it seems almost impossible that a bear can live off of this type of thing. I did read somewhere that a bear forages over about 300 square miles so maybe there’s enough berries in that size area.

We continue to be amazed by the trail. It is wonderful to be off the road. The trail today included the views of the mountains and also some rides through grassy fields as well as tree-lined and covered tunnels. It doesn’t get old.

To finish today’s photos I’m posting one of the signs we see in BC. It’s to help you anticipate a future blog about all the weird signs we’ve seen in BC. If you can tell what this one means then you’re doing very well or at least better than me. I thought maybe it was an advertisement for The Grapes of Wrath but I sort of doubt it.

  1. Either a warning regarding the road for trucks with heavy loads or a warning to vehicles following a loaded truck as watch for debris flying off the truck? These are my best guesses.

    1. Sal you might be right but by the time any of us figure it out it will be a moot point which means the sign is pretty worthless

      1. I thought you knew what it meant, my mistake, I guess we shall never know and I agree it is thus rendered both moot and useless? Enjoy your trip the scenery looks fabulous, safe travels, God Bless.
